Biography —
Having worked full time in the research areas of molecular biology, protein production, and biophysical characterization of protein in the last 26 years, Dr Gao has extensive experience in sample preparation of challenging proteins for enzymatic studies, NMR, X-ray crystallography, and Mass spectrometry. He equipped and managed a new membrane protein production facility from 2001-2007 in the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State University and at the COBRE Protein Production Core laboratory at the University of Kansas from July 2008 to present. Both core facilities provide proteins to be used for team-based NIH projects to study structure and function of proteins. Dr. Gao has always been interested in collaborative research and enjoy working with people from different disciplines and backgrounds.
In 1988 Dr.Gao received a B.S. in Medical Chemistry from Peking University Medical Center and in 1996 earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Kansas.
